Castlewellan forest park and maze offers forest mountain bike trails, walks, & horse riding. All in the splendour of the castle the lake has boating, canoeing & fishing activities.
The world’s second largest permanent hedge maze was designed to commemorate the peace and reconciliation efforts of N.I. in the past century. The walled Annesley garden, arboretum and stunning victorian castle within the park are beautiful with caravanning and camping facilities.
This castle is best known as Castlewellan Castle a Scottish Baronial style castle which was built by William Richard Annesley at the foot of Slievenaslat in the second half of the 19th Century. This castle gave anyone who stayed in it the breathtaking views of the Mourne Mountains and Castlewellan Lake. It was decided that Granite would be used for the walls at Ballymagreghan as is the hardest of any in the British Isles. Because of this it took the stone masons much longer than anticipated to finish the castle. This area is one of the most outstanding tree and shrub collections in Europe.
This outstanding view of Castlewellan castle really sets the scene of the surrounding area of the mountains and scenery, with the castle nestled between them.
One of Ireland's most scenic areas and the ultimate adventurer's paradise.
